Chester Online is an independent news and information site for Chester and the wider Cheshire West area. We report what the public record shows and we keep the everyday local information accurate, which for most readers is the part they come back for.
Our patch
Chester is the anchor: the walled city, the Rows, the Roodee, the university and the streets either side of the Dee, along with Blacon, Saughall, Christleton, Handbridge and the villages out to Tarvin, Kelsall, Tarporley and Malpas. The same council covers Ellesmere Port, Neston, Frodsham, Helsby, Northwich and Winsford, and we cover those too, without pretending they think of themselves as Chester. Being a border city matters as well, and a good deal of daily life here runs across into Flintshire and Wrexham.
What we publish
Two things, mostly. Reporting drawn from documents that anybody is entitled to read but few people have time for, and reference pages that answer the questions people search for in a hurry. The first group covers planning applications and decisions from Cheshire West and Chester Council, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, sold prices from HM Land Registry, Food Standards Agency inspection results, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Dee and the Weaver, and company records from The Gazette. The second is the practical stuff: bins, parking, council tax bands.
How we work
Every fact is tied to a named source and linked, so you can check the original rather than take our word for it. If a record is unclear, we say it is unclear. We write in plain British English and we do not run press releases as though they were news.
Corrections and tips
We would rather be accurate than first. If we have made an error, email hello@chesteronline.co.uk and we will put it right and note the correction on the page. The same address is the one to use if you know about a planning row, a closure, an opening or an event we should be covering.
Chester Online is published by the GOB Media Group. We are independent of the council and of everyone else we report on.
